Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
September 25, 2017
In the spring of 2017, the CCSD 46 Board of Education approved the Preamble, Beliefs, Values and Guiding Principles presented by the Diversity Committee. On September 5th, the Justice Department announced the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in March of 2018. Under DACA, children brought here by undocumented parents have been allowed to live and work in the United States. The decision to end DACA will affect families in our district and students in our schools.
CCSD 46 reaffirms not only our commitment to our Diversity Policy, but also to our DACA families. Our Diversity Preamble is as follows:
We, the families, students, teachers, administrators, and staff of Community Consolidated School District 46 believe in the fundamental and inherent equality, dignity, and value of all who study, participate, and work in our school community.
We believe, that we, the above listed stakeholders, have a collective responsibility to create a positive, inclusive, and equitable learning environment.
We acknowledge the uniqueness of each individual, and are committed to understanding personal, cultural, and historical aspects of identity and how these contribute to and enrich our community.
We believe in the freedom of speech and encourage the expression of diverse opinions and ideas.
We reject words and actions of hate, intolerance, fear, and disrespect.
To that end, we affirm that District 46 and our schools are safe places for learning, sharing, relationionship building and growth.
All students are welcome here! We will continue to support our DACA families and students through these uncertain times.
